Licensure Information

Initial Licensure

Application for Licensure Deadlines
All Candidates who have already taken and passed their National Board Part III exam should request an application packet from the NC Board of Podiatry Examiners in late December or early January. (Those needing approval for their eligibility to sit for the National Board Part III exam in December should contact the Board in August or early September to request an application packet.)

The Deadline for submitting the COMPLETED application is Wednesday, February 27, 2008. The following materials should be submitted:

  • Application
  • Fee of $350.00
  • Copy of high school transcript/diploma
  • Copies of college transcripts/diploma
  • Podiatry school proof of graduation
    (diploma or letter)
  • Official transcript from podiatry school
  • National Podiatry Board Exam scores (Parts I, II & III)
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation using the Certificate of Recommendation:
    • A licensed Podiatrist;
    • A second licensed Podiatrist; and,
    • A third licensed Podiatrist or an MD
  • Residency certificate or preceptorship completion certificate

Examination
The 2008 examination is April 24-26 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC. The exam is administered over a three-day period and consists of an Oral, Written, and Practical section.

The deadline for applications for the 2008 exam is February 27, 2008.

License Renewal

Dates and Deadlines
Renewal forms are mailed to all licensed podiatrists in early May of each year. Our office should receive renewal forms and required accompanying materials no later than June 30th of each year.

There is a 30-day grace period (until July 31), but if the license holder fails to secure renewal within this 30-day period the license will be considered non-renewed or delinquent. Un-renewed or delinquent licenses are valid until January 1 of the following year. Any podiatrist who fails to meet this January 1 deadline for renewal must appear before the Board and take a new examination before being allowed to practice podiatry again in the state of North Carolina.

  • Completed Renewal Form (New renewal form coming soon.)
  • Completed and Signed Disclaimer Form with any necessary attachments
  • Proof of Continuing Education
  • Renewal Fee of $200.00

Fact Sheet on Trends in Professional Supply of Podiatrists (2004)

It is Board policy (General Statutes of North Carolina, Article 12A Chapter 90 section 202.10) that all licensed podiatrists in the state of North Carolina must, on or before the first day of July of each year, apply for license renewal. Any license granted by the Board shall be considered non-renewed if the holder fails to secure the renewal within a period of 30 days after the first day of July of each year. A podiatrist is allowed to practice with a non-renewed or delinquent license for a six-month period (until January 1), following the July 1 deadline. Any podiatrist who fails to meet this January 1 deadline must appear before the Board and take a new examination before being allowed to practice podiatry in the State of North Carolina.
